Educate leadership to help avoid negligent credentialing

By not having thorough, detailed credentialing policies, a healthcare organization may become at risk for increased errors, higher mortality rates, and a higher number of lawsuits for which the organization could be held liable. A robust credentialing process catches the problem from the beginning and aids in identifying changes in practitioners' competency or practice patterns.

Educating your medical staff members and administrative leaders is an important aspect of avoiding negligent credentialing. When leaders have a thorough understanding of credentialing requirements and actively participate in establishing them, they are less likely to push for less stringent processes and more likely to support and enforce the mandatory requirements needed to accomplish thorough credentialing. Medical staff members' and hospital leaders' top priority should always be safe, quality patient care.
