FSMB team explores interstate compacts for physician licensing
Many physicians are accustomed to the licensure process being somewhat of a headache—particularly when a provider is seeking a license to practice medicine in more than one state. But that might change soon. Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) members approved a resolution in support of the new policy examination at the organization’s annual meeting in April.
Currently, an FSMB team is studying the practical implications of a medical licensing compact, which could streamline and simplify the licensure process for physicians, including telemedicine practitioners, seeking to practice in more than one state, according to the Robert J. Waters Center for Telehealth and e-Health Law (CTeL). The results of the FSMB team’s study are expected this month, CTeL reports.
