Hospital admissions declining

Hospital admissions declined 2% in 2013 to 35.4 million, according to the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) latest statistics. In 2012, 36.2 million admissions were reported.
 
Over the same period, outpatient visits increased to 787 million, 1.2% more than in 2012, according to the AHA. The number of hospitals with medical home programs also increased. In 2013, more than 20% of hospitals had a program, which was 14.5% more than those with programs in 2011.
