Hospital form its own police department

In response to the growing threat of violence, the Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital formed its own police department and swore in its first five officers this week.

 

The officers will be able to make arrests on the hospital grounds, eliminating the need to wait for local police to come and make arrests, as had been the case previously. Two more officers are expected to be sworn in this week and the hospital’s nine security officers will become police officers over the next two years.
