Improve physician engagement
May 8, 2018
As the healthcare industry shifts to models of care that focus on improved patient outcomes and efficiency, having an engaged physician workforce is critical because physicians drive the majority quality decisions at hospitals and health systems.
At a recent roundtable, hospital executives identified the following main drivers of physician engagement:
- Identify leadership opportunities for physicians. Investing in formal and informal leadership development opportunities for physicians ensures that their voices are actually heard.
- Adopt a model in which physicians and operational leaders work together on some level of management. Bridging the gap between physicians and administrators can foster trust.
- Don't rely solely on competitive pay. Higher compensation may not necessarily lead to higher engagement because physicians already expect it.
