Improving hand-hygiene compliance

The Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) recently released its guide to help hospitals fully comply with recommended hand-hygiene guidelines. Among its recommendations, the guide suggests hospitals:
•    Establish ongoing monitoring and feedback on infection rates
•    Create a multidisciplinary design and response team to emphasize the organization’s commitment to hand-hygiene
•    Provide ongoing hand-hygiene education and training
•    Ensure the accessibility of hand-hygiene resources
•    Reinforce hand-hygiene behaviors and accountability
