Surgeons, hospitals accused in civil complaint over fake spinal implants

Fifteen surgeons and 17 hospitals are accused of conspiring with a company that distributed fake spinal implants, according to a civil complaint filed in California by dozens of insurance companies.

The surgeons are accused of receiving kickbacks from Spinal Solutions in exchange for referring patients to hospitals where the counterfeit screws and parts were used in the implants. The complaint accuses the hospitals of allowing this occur in order to bill insurance companies.
