The Joint Commission updates practitioner reappointment time frame

Editor’s note: For more information about this development, look out for a future Credentialing Resource Center Journal article.

The Joint Commission’s time frame for evaluating licensed practitioners’ ability to provide care, treatment, and services has been updated from two years to three years.

The new time frame is intended to better align with the standard practice of evaluating licensed practitioners every three years. The new requirement is effective immediately and exceptions will be made if laws and regulations require a shorter period.

The new requirement applies to accreditation programs for ambulatory healthcare, behavioral healthcare and human services, critical access hospitals, hospitals, nursing care centers, and office-based surgery. To read the updated pre-publication standards, click here.
