Legislative issues for physicians

Strengthening support for physician-led team-based care will be a top legislative priority, according to medical association leaders who recently met at the AMA’s State Legislative Strategy Conference. AMA model state legislation that encourages a physician leadership framework will be under consideration in several states.

Addressing the opioid overdose epidemic will also be a focus of several state medical associations and national medical specialty societies as they consider legislation that addresses the use of prescription drug monitoring programs to help reduce drug abuse and overdoses.
