N. Ireland restrictions on HIV-infected health staff may be lifted

The Department of Health in Northern Ireland is considering whether to lift restrictions that stop healthcare staff with HIV from performing a number of medical procedures. The UK announced last week it was lifting a similar ban. From 2014, healthcare staff in England, Wales and Scotland having HIV treatment will be able to take part in all tasks, including surgery and dentistry. The restrictions have been in place since the 1980s.
