New Jersey introduces physician profiles database

New Jersey Governor James McGreevey (D) recently signed legislation that established the creation of a database that contains information regarding the credentials, experience, disciplinary actions, and malpractice histories of all licensed physicians and podiatrists working in the state.

The public can access the database via the Internet and through a toll-free telephone number. The approved legislation requires the state's Division of Consumer Affairs and Board of Medical Examiners one year to develop the data collection system and create the online database.
