Physician leaders on how to succeed
November 22, 2016
In a recent CEO/CFO roundtable held by Becker's Hospital Review, physician leaders discussed what has helped them succeed in their leadership roles. Some of their key tips include:
- Don't go into a leadership role because you are burnt out in your clinical role. Also, continue to practice clinical medicine after you assume a leadership role. Physician leaders need to understand what their fellow physicians are facing on a daily basis and be a champion for their needs.
- Serve as a medical staff leader first.
- Work-life balance is important for physician leaders too.
- Find a physician leader who can serve as your mentor, and then become a mentor to future physician leaders.
