Physician salaries up in 2022

Physicians made more money in 2022 than 2021, according to Medscape’s 2022 Physician Compensation Report. Both primary care and specialty physicians saw an increase in compensation in the past year. Since 2015, physician compensation has increased by 29%.

The three highest paid specialties were:

• Plastic surgery ($576,000)
• Orthopedics ($557,000)
• Cardiology ($490,000)

Specialties that saw the greatest increase in salary from 2021 to 2022 were:

• Otolaryngology (13%)
• Gastroenterology (12%)
• Dermatology (11%)
