Several states introduce interstate licensure compact legislation

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) recently announced that legislators in nine states have formally introduced the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which would provide physicians with a streamlined process for applying for licenses in multiple states.

The FSMB released its finalized version of the model legislation last September. The nine states—Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Wyoming—are the first to introduce it.

The FSMB also launched a new website (http://licenseportability.org) that visitors can use to track the Compact’s progress in each state’s legislature.
