Survey: Locum tenens providers undeterred by COVID-19

Most half locum of tenens providers accepted the same number of temporary assignments or more during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a survey conducted by physician staffing firm Staff Care.

According to the survey of 672 physicians and advanced practice professionals who have worked as locum tenens, 55% reported COVID-19 made no impact on how many temporary assignments they accepted in the previous 12 months. In fact, 18% of respondents said they accepted more temporary assignments because of the virus. On the other hand, 22% of respondents reported a reduced the number of assignments they accepted due to COVID-19, and 5% stopped working temporary assignments. 

Locum tenens also reported greater acceptance at their temporary assignments as their presence becomes more common at hospitals and healthcare facilities. Ninety percent of respondents said they were accepted by colleagues and 82% said they were accepted by administrators. Also, 96% of respondents reported being accepted by patients.
