Take a three-tiered approach to performance appraisals

A three-tiered approach to evaluating leaders often works best. Senior members of the medical staff and hospital management, members of the general medical staff, and physician leaders themselves can all be effective members of the evaluation team. Each has his or her own unique perspective on how a physician leader is performing and what improvements either the individual or the organization needs to make.
