Unlicensed physician charged with Medicaid fraud
October 23, 2014
Authorities have arrested a man, Wellington Liranzo, on charges of Medicaid provider fraud and practicing medicine without a license at the Prime Care Family Health Center in Orlando.
The arrest is a result of an investigation by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit that began after a managed care provider filed a complaint against Prime Care. The provider said payments were made to Prime Care for services performed by Liranzo, who is not licensed in Florida.
Liranzo told authorities he was a physician in the Dominican Republic but did not practice medicine at Prime Care and was merely the office manager. However, several patients told investigators that Liranzo conducted examinations, gave out referrals, and wrote prescriptions.
