Urologists have highest burnout rate

Fifty-four percent of urologists reported feeling burned out, the highest rate among all physician specialties, according to a recent Medscape survey. Neurologists were the second-highest specialty reporting burnout (50%), followed by nephrologists (49%).

More than 15,000 physicians from more than 29 specialties were surveyed on whether they felt burned out. Overall, 42% of the survey respondents reported that they were burned out. This percentage is down 4% from a survey five years ago.

The fourth-highest was a five-way tie between physicians specializing in diabetes and endocrinology, family medicine, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, and rheumatology, with 46% reporting burnout.
