CRC Symposium: Ten places to chow down in Austin
Come to the 2017 CRC Symposium for two days of training with top credentialing and medical staff experts, but stay for the finest barbecue Austin, Texas, has to offer. You’ll find no shortage of barbecue joints during your visit to satisfy your cravings for brisket, ribs, sausage, and pulled pork.
Austinites may not want more out-of-towners to know that some of the best barbecue in the country can be found at Franklin Barbecue. That’s because the line often starts forming hours before this lunch-only restaurant opens. Don’t be surprised to wait three or four hours on a busy day. Trying going mid-week for a shorter wait.
If you can’t get into Franklin, there are still other great choices to meet your barbecue cravings. Show off how hip you are by dining at any of the barbecue food trucks and trailers found throughout the city, such as Kerlin BBQ, La Barbecue, and Micklethwait Craft Meats. Most are set up in shaded areas with picnic tables for an informal dining experience. Be forewarned, many of these places will close up shop for the day once they’re sold out, so don’t dillydally and get there early.
If you insist on dining indoors, visit Lamberts Downtown Barbecue, Cooper’s Pit Bar-B-Que, or Terry Black’s Barbecue. And if you want to taste barbecue like it’s been served for decades, head over to House Park Bar-B-Que or Iron Works BBQ.
Lastly, be sure to take a pilgrimage to The Salt Lick, located 30 minutes from downtown. Regularly featured on travel TV shows, the restaurant and its iconic open pit live up to the hype. It’s BYOB and cash only so come prepared.
