Ask the expert: When can we use our expedited credentialing policy?
December 20, 2007
Once the application is complete and verified, the medical staff has opportunities to speed up the credentialing and privileging process. A hospital can opt to use "expedited credentialing" for applications that "do not raise concern." The medical staff should proactively identify the issues that raise concern and apply them fairly to all applicants. The following issues usually raise concern:
- An adverse NPDB report
- A malpractice history that is above the proscribed limit
- An investigation or sanction by a state medical board
- An involuntary termination of membership
- A limitation, reduction, denial, or loss of privileges at another institution
