Hackers attack two hospitals in California
Hackers targeted two southern California hospitals—Chino Valley Medical Center and Dessert Valley Hospital—late last week by infiltrating their computer systems with ransomware, which encrypts data and demands payment to unlock it.
A spokesman for the hospitals, which are part of Prime Healthcare Services Inc., said technology specialists were able to limit the attack so both hospitals remained operational, no patient or employee data was compromised, and no ransom was paid.
The two incidents have been added to an ongoing FBI probe.
