Study: Physician burnout rates increasing
January 22, 2016
The percentage of physicians with burnout is rising, according to researchers at the AMA and Mayo Clinic. The researchers conducted a follow-up to a 2011 national survey and found that in 2014, 54.4% of physicians reported at least one sign of burnout on the Maslach Burnout Inventory, up from the 45% in 2011.
Burnout rates were higher for all specialties in 2014 compared to 2011. Notable increases were dermatology (24.7%), urology (22.4%), physical medicine and rehabilitation (15.9%), and pathology (14.9%).
