Study: Revisits to ER more frequent
Previous research found that about 3% of patients discharged from ERs returned within three days, but a new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found the percentage to be much higher. According to the study, which used data from 2006-2010 in six states, more than 8% of patients actually revisited ERs within three days. The higher number may be due to the fact that about one-third of patients who had to go back to the ER within three days went to a different institution than their initial visit so they weren’t being counted as revisits.
