Healthcare photo sharing app to launch in Europe

Figure 1, a photo sharing app that allows healthcare professionals to share pictures of their patients with each other and medical students for educational purposes will be launched across Western Europe by the end of the year.

The app, which is already available in North America, the United Kingdom, and Ireland, is free to download but only physicians who provide identifying credentials can upload and comment on photos. All uploaded photos are also reviewed by moderators before it’s added to the database. More than 150,000 physicians have uploaded case photos to the app.

Experts have expressed concerns with the app over patient confidentiality. The app does automatically obscured patients’ faces and users must manually block identifying marks like tattoos.
