Interstate compacts for physicians?

A Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) team is studying the details and implications of interstate compacts for physician licensure. These compacts could streamline licensing procedures for physicians who seek to practice in more than one state—possibly simplifying license verification in the process. The FSMB team’s findings are expected soon.

A simpler process for multistate licensing sounds promising, especially for telemedicine, but there are plenty of other credentialing and privileging challenges related to telemedicine practitioners and others. If you missed the first webcast in our Overcoming Competency Assessment Challenges series, you can get it on-demand, and find guidance for assessing telemedicine practitioners, new technologies and temporary privileging. The second session will be presented Tuesday, July 23, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Eastern and covers advanced practice professionals. Click here for more information.
