Aligning organizational goals with the OPPE initiative

Use goal cascading to operationalize the indicator selection process. Goal cascading is the concept of linking business goals and performance measures to individual performance targets. This concept can be applied to OPPE. Identify relevant organizational and department/specialty goals and link them to performance indicators that measure how successfully a practitioner performs within the context of the organization’s goals. This process shows the specific effect a physician’s performance has on the specialty, department, and entire hospital.

With goal cascading, you can effectively bridge the organizational goals and OPPE indicators into a robust quality infrastructure. Ideally, OPPE will function as a vehicle for achieving goals, and practitioners will clearly understand the effect of their performance on the hospital’s strategy.
