Checks and balances for your credentials files

Today’s free resource is a checklist you can use to audit credentials files when preparing them for initial appointment or reappointment. This checklist was developed by the medical staff services department at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.  Lisa Kuklinski, BBA, CPMSM, CPCS, manager of medical staff services at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta says when developing a checklist to audit your credentials files, start with the staff category with the most elements in the file (e.g., active staff). From there, you can work your way backward to develop checklists for practitioners with fewer necessary elements (e.g., affiliate staff or allied health professionals) by deleting the elements that do not apply. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta used this approach when creating checklists for the 2,000-plus practitioners it is responsible for credentialing.
