CMS renews HFAP's deeming authority
September 13, 2013
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) continued deeming authority to accredit acute-care hospitals participating in Medicare or Medicaid. Based on its review of HFAP’s hospital accreditation program, CMS has extended HFAP's deeming authority through September 25, 2019.
CMS extended HFAP’s authority by the maximum allowed by law—six years, according to Michael J. Zarski, JD, HFAP’s CEO. “By extending deeming authority for the maximum, the federal government recognized HFAP’s top performance and our ability to sustain that level of excellence,” Zarski said.
