CMS seeks input on outpatient care and payment models

CMS last week released a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input on potential payment and care delivery models that focus on outpatient specialty care and complex/chronic disease management care. The RFI could affect a broad group of healthcare stakeholders, including physician specialty providers ranging from anesthesiologists to radiologists, wrote Andrew J. Shin of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., a Boston law firm, in a post on the Mondaq website last week. The RFI identifies colonoscopy and cardiac catheterization procedures as good candidates for episode-based payments, and identifies services such as anesthesia, pathology, radiology, and diagnostics as potential components to be included in the episode-based payment model.
