Compensation rises for C-suite physician leaders

The total median compensation for physicians in leadership roles this year is $350,000, according to Cejka Executive Search’s 2016 Physician Leadership Compensation Survey. This represents an 8% gain from the previous survey in 2013.

Physician leaders in emerging roles, such as chief innovation officer, chief integration officer, chief strategy officer, chief transformational officer, and physician in chief earned the most with an average compensation of $499,000. This was a 6% increase from the 2013 survey. This was followed by CEOs and presidents who earned an average of $437,500, a 7% increase.

The survey, conducted in partnership with the American Association for Physician Leadership, collected data from 2,353 physician leaders and includes salaries, bonuses, distribution of profits, honoraria, incentive payments, and research stipends.
