Master the art of minutes writing

MSPs are often tasked with taking meeting minutes for medical staff committees, including the credentials committee. The compiler of the minutes sends them to the credentials committee chair for approval, and it’s most effective if this happens within a week of the meeting. Many MSPs write and send the minutes for approval within 48 hours of the meeting, while the details are still fresh in everyone’s mind. If the committee chair approves the minutes, then they’re usually included in a consent agenda at the following meeting.

Typically, meeting minutes should contain the following elements:

  • Members present
  • Topics discussed
  • Conclusions reached
  • Nothing else, no matter how dramatic or emotionally fraught a meeting might have been

There’s an art to writing minutes, and that’s to take a minimalist approach, as today’s free resource illustrates.
