National Association of ACOs is formed

Representatives of more than 60 accountable care organizations (ACO) from 15 States have joined forces to form the National Association of ACOs (NAACOS), an organization formed to allow ACOs to work together with the goals of increasing the quality of care, lowering costs, and improving community health.

On its website, NAACOS lists the following as part of its mission:

  • Foster growth of ACO models of care
  • Participate with federal agencies in the development and implementations of public policy
  • Provide industry-wide uniformity on quality and performance measures
  • Educate members in clinical and operational best practices
  • Collectively engage the vendor community
  • Educate the public about the value of accountable care

NAACOS will sponsor its first national conference and membership meeting in Baltimore March 19-21; membership is expected to exceed 100 ACOs by April. An interim Board of Directors has been selected to govern the association until the permanent Board is elected in June.
