Owning OPPE and FPPE

Today's tip comes from the December issue of Medical Staff Briefing:

Although most organizations have different methods for completing OPPE and FPPE, one common factor is that it requires both the medical staff services and quality departments. The data usually lives in the quality department, and medical staff services is responsible for turning the data into a meaningful assessment of physician competence.

The relationship between quality and medical staff services is critical in the effectiveness of OPPE and FPPE activities. "If there is strong leadership and ownership of their respective areas of the process, OPPE and FPPE can be a means by which the organization can highlight its opportunities for improvement and its exemplars—something not done enough in healthcare."
