Pioneer ACOs share lessons
The number of accountable care organizations (ACOs) now stands at 488, more than double the total in June 2012. With more providers looking to implement the ACO model, the Alliance for Health Reform earlier this week gathered a panel of experts to share lessons learned. During the discussion, dubbed “Pioneer ACOs: Lessons Learned from Participants and Dropouts,” panelists emphasized that good data, patient engagement, a revamped emergency room, and an expanded workforce are essential components for ACO success.
Although these tips could help achieve ACO success, hospital leaders must remember all healthcare is local, panelists noted. When developing an ACO, healthcare leaders must stay focused on the reality that there are different solutions for different communities.
