Reviewing OPPE data
June 18, 2015
How often should rate and rule aggregate data be reviewed? The Joint Commission at this time requires at least three evaluations in a two-year reappointment cycle. For those who wish to stick to the minimum, that means producing an OPPE report every eight months. However, I recommend creating reports every six months for three reasons:
- It is more aligned with the typical quality and financial data availability cycles in most organizations
- It allows for chances for feedback in the two-year reappointment cycle and hence, a greater opportunity for physician self-improvement
- Because it provides more frequent categorical ratings, it is easier to identify a trend sooner for elevation to FPPE
