Study: Risky surgery survival rates vary widely
A study released by the Leapfrog Group found that the survival rate of patients undergoing one of four high-risk surgeries varied widely depending on the hospital.
Using data from 2013, the study found that the expected survival rate for pancreatectomy ranged 81-100%, the widest of the surgeries studied, followed by 86-99% for repairs of abdominal aortic aneurysms, 88-99% for an esophagectomy, and 92-97% for replacing a heart’s aortic valve.
