Undergrad gains entry into hospital by posing as medical student

A University of Colorado-Denver student gained unauthorized access to Denver Health Medical Center by posing as a medical student and interacted with at least one patient. The hospital has suspended all student and learner badge access while it is re-verifies all student credentials.

According to Denver Health, Vanessa Loznik, a freshman biology major, posed as a medical student and gained access to areas of the hospital with patients. The hospital is investigating the extent to which Loznik interacted with patients. It confirmed that Loznik had contact with one patient; however, a qualified provider was present during that interaction. She also never had access to patient medical records.

Denver Health has banned Loznik from its campus and may pursue legal action against her. The hospital reported the incident to the Denver District Attorney’s Office and its Economic Crime Unit, which investigate fraud and identity theft issues, will handle the case.
