USMLE changes Step 1 passing requirements

The U.S. Medical Licensing Examination’s (USMLE) Step 1 Committee has decided to raise the minimum passing score of the USMLE Step 1 exam from 188 to 192. The decision followed a review of the Step 1 exam and was based on information from multiple sources, including recommendations from independent groups of physicians who participated in content-based standard-setting activities in 2013; surveys of state licensing representatives, medical school faculty, and examinees; and data on trends in examinee performance. The change will affect examinees testing on or after Jan. 1, 2014.
