What documents do we need to keep, and for how long?

Many MSPs have questions regarding what information to keep and how long to store it. Although credentials files should be permanently retained, some items within the files may be purged. As far as storage location, files should be kept in the medical staff services department for two years past the date they become inactive. They should then be archived in accordance with hospital procedures.
Today’s free resource is a sample policy that shows retention recommendations for several common documentation types, including certificates, work papers, verification forms, and requests for references from other hospitals.
