Ask the expert: Advice for new credentialing leaders

Q: What management advice would you give to new credentialing leaders to help manage their tasks, duties, team, staff, etc.?

Dawn Anderson, CPCS, CPMSM: To manage my own tasks and keep myself organized, at the close of each workday, I identify my three most important tasks for the following day and ensure these are the first items I address when I return to work [which is very helpful in time management].

Also, I would recommend conducting weekly team meetings, including for remote employees. Holding a weekly team meeting is crucial for fostering a sense of unity and keeping everyone aligned with your organization’s goals. Additionally, scheduling quarterly gatherings focused solely on fun—such as team-building activities or games—provides an opportunity for staff to relax, get to know one another personally, and reduce workplace stress.

It’s important to have consistent one-on-one meetings with each team member to identify any obstacles they’re facing and to show that you genuinely value their concerns and priorities. This allows you an opportunity to help the team members re-prioritize their work, if need be.
