Make use of delegated credentialing
Consider delegated credentialing. Maybe not full delegation, “but why do you have to reverify items that are never going to change? We've been talking about this in the credentialing industry for years: duplication of credentials,” says Susan Collier, MHA, vice president of quality management at CHG Healthcare Services in Salt Lake City, Utah. “How many applications does the average physician fill out during the course of his or her life? I don't know, but it's scary to think what that number might be.” Physicians are frustrated because they have to supply the same information repeatedly, she adds.
CHG credentials its physicians through a CVO that's certified by NCQA and has internal credentialing policies and procedures that are a hybrid of NCQA and Joint Commission standards. "We work with a lot of acute care hospitals. ... We want to make sure we credential our physicians in the same way our customers credential so there are no surprises," Collier says.
