The MSP's role in ambulatory credentialing
In today’s quick tip, Todd Sagin, MD, JD, discusses how MSPs can use their expertise to devise a plan for credentialing ambulatory providers. The increasing roles and responsibilities of MSPs will be discussed at the 2016 Credentialing Resource Center Symposium, April 7-8 in Orlando.
Q: What are some things that MSPs in “traditional” environments can do to pave the way for credentialing practitioners in outpatient settings?
Sagin: The expertise of credentialing experts (a characterization that fits most MSPs) will need to be applied to outpatient settings with increasing frequency. As hospitals employ more and more outpatient practitioners, adequate vetting of competency is beyond the skillset of most human resources departments. MSPs will need to become active players in the evaluation and assessment of employed practitioners, including those who will work exclusively in the outpatient setting and may not otherwise require medical staff membership or privileges.
