ECFMG pilots medical elective exchange system
The Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) is pilot testing an international partnership that aims to enhance and simplify the process of medical elective exchanges for medical schools and students worldwide. Using the Global Education in Medicine Exchange (GEMx) system, medical schools can promote their school and elective offerings to students and to other partner schools, and provide students with a convenient online tool to search and apply for those offerings.
In September, GEMx Partner Schools participating in the pilot began creating school profiles within the GEMx system. The profiles include course objectives, program requirements, travel information, and contact information. Earlier this month, eligible students of GEMx Partner Schools began to view the school profiles, and can now identify and apply for electives that meet their medical career goals and academic interests, according to ECFMG. The pilot of the GEMx system is expected to run for approximately one year.
