First-time festivities at UP Health System
For Lori Hicks, senior executive assistant and medical staff coordinator at UP Health System—Marquette in Michigan, National Medical Staff Services Awareness Week has flown under the radar for years. But thanks to Hicks' skillful self-advocacy and the warm receptiveness of her colleagues, UP Health System and its CVO are celebrating this year’s event in style. Here’s Hicks’ story:
Our hospital has never really recognized this week, so I spoke with our CMO (my supervisor) to make him aware, and I said that this year, I would like MSP Week to be recognized for me (I am the only MSP here for a medical staff of approximately 450) and for our CVO credentialers who work so hard at getting our providers credentialed and ready to start on time! Our CMO announced MSP Awareness Week at our medical staff executive committee meeting on Tuesday, and the members all congratulated me. The credentialing supervisor and I are providing lunch today for the credentialing team. We will take this opportunity to socialize, motivate one another, and emphasize the positive changes coming up for 2017! This is just one step toward making our team stronger.
