FTC weighs in on regulation of APNs ...

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) earlier this month released a position paper in which the agency urges the opening of healthcare markets to a broader range of providers. In the paper, “Policy Perspectives: Competition and the Regulation of Advanced Practice Nurses,” the FTC urges expansion of advanced practice nurses’ scope of practice, and warns state legislators that physician supervision requirements effectively give one group of healthcare professionals the ability to restrict access to the market by another group of healthcare professionals, “thereby denying healthcare consumers the benefits of greater competition.”
