The Joint Commission proposes diagnostic imaging services revisions
The Joint Commission is seeking input on proposed changes to its diagnostic imaging requirements for the ambulatory care, critical access hospital, and hospital accreditation programs. The requirements need to be enhanced to address quality- and safety-related issues associated with diagnostic imaging, The Joint Commission announced earlier this week.
The proposed standards changes focus on four diagnostic imaging modalities: CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, and PET. “Several of the proposed standard changes are highly technical, and in some instances prescriptive. We encourage you to obtain feedback on the proposed revisions from your clinicians and radiology staff with expertise in diagnostic imaging,” the commission stated. Organizations can respond to the proposed standards and revisions through September 24.
