The Joint Commission proposes perinatal care certification

The Joint Commission is developing an optional certification program for accredited organizations that will focus on essential, high-value requirements for mothers and newborns who have been assessed as clinically uncomplicated. The Perinatal Care certification will evaluate an organization’s prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care services, while addressing all stages of this specialty service. The Joint Commission is considering more substantive additions to these requirements for addressing high-risk pregnancies and births at some time in the future. Field review comments will be gathered for six weeks ending March 26.
