Physician’s inability to use computer costs her license

A New Hampshire physician is asking for permission to continue seeing patients after surrendering her medical license. Anna Konopka, MD, 84, said she was forced to give up her license by the state medical board after five complaints were filed against her. The board took issue with Konopka’s record keeping, prescribing practices, and medical decision making. The board also argued that Konopka’s limited computer skills prevent her from using the state’s mandatory electronic drug monitoring database. Konopka says she does not know how to use a computer and does not have one in her office. Her patients paper records are kept in a filing cabinet in her office.

On Nov. 15, a New Hampshire Superior Court judge ruled against Konopka, stating she failed to show she was forced to give up her license. Konopka is asking the judge to reconsider and 30 of her patients have written letters to the judge in support of Konopka.
