State investigation reveals inappropriate patient transfers
July 19, 2013
Several Nevada hospitals were found to have “inappropriately transferred” patients to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) in Las Vegas, a state investigation found. UMC officials believe many of the patients transferred there—supposedly in need of a specialist—did not actually need one and should have been handled by ER physicians at the originating hospitals, the Las Vegas Sun reported. In no case was patient safety put at risk, the state found.
