HHS’ ONC gets restructured, affecting medical technology

ONC gets new name and structure

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology would be renamed and restructured. This restructuring will affect technology, cybersecurity, data, and AI strategy and policy functions. The Office will be renamed the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy and Office of the National Coordinator for Health information Technology (ASTP/ONC).

Under the new restructuring, there will be several new offices, including: an Office of Policy, an Office of Technology, an Office of Standards, Certification, and Analysis, and an Office of the Chief Operating Officer. These offices will help carry out the implementation of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, as well as the 21st Century Cures Act.
